BIGGEST GOLD NUGGET EVER FOUND - 290kg
The largest gold nugget ever found (also known as the Holtermann Nugget) was discovered in Australia in 1872. However, many considered it too big to be considered a nugget so people refer to the 72.04 'welcome stranger' nugget to be the biggest ever recorded.
However, the largest gold nugget that can be seen today is the 'Hand of Faith' nugget weighing 27.2 kilograms and can be viewed in the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas.

How much Gold is there in Northern Ireland?
Surprisingly to many, Northern Ireland has a massive gold deposit all over the place. This is because, millions of years ago when only one continent(Pangaea) was present, Ireland was beside North America and after the two areas split, Ireland took with it some of the Gold rich earth along with it.
Much of western Ireland has large deposits of gold and there is even a full running gold mine outside of Omagh- Galantas. However, I'm interested in telling you where anyone can easily take a pan and get gold without spending too much money.
Here is a map of Gold deposits in N.I first:
From the map it is clear that much gold can be found in the mountainous areas of Northern Ireland. The Sperrins and the Mourne mountains are the 'hot spots' for finding gold. It is great to now where-a-bouts to find gold but where exactly do you find easy gold? - Streams/shallow rivers.
If you can venture out into these areas, look for areas that look like this-
The best place to find gold is usually beneath large boulders where the gold becomes trapped.

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my new gold mining/panning blog. I have created this so anyone from Ireland, the UK or anywhere else can get information on a cheap and easy new way to get money which is also fun at the same time. Gold panning is very fun and doesn't require that much money. In fact, all you need is a pan and shovel to start with and after you get experience, you may consider buying a sluice box or classifier etc...
